In this unit students responded to the theme of pattern by exploring a range of art disciplines and experimenting with a variety of techniques, processes and materials whilst investigating the work of a range of artists.
Kinetic drawing
Students studied the kinetic drawings of the performance artist Heather Hansen. Inspired by exploring how kinetic artists use the movement of their bodies to record line and shape, students created a series of their own kinetic drawings by experimenting with synchronised movements.
Collaborative Rangoli Compositions
Students were given the challenge of re-inventing traditional Indian rangoli patterns in new ways. Working collaboratively in teams using only the equipment available in the art room, students created and photographed their compositions.
Careful consideration of repetitive pattern, symmetrical composition and knowledge of the colour wheel enabled students to develop their rangoli compositions in more complex ways.

Colour Theory Collage
Students used the complex paintings and sculptures by the artist Jen Stark to inspire their paper collages. Students experimented with hot, cold and complementary colours and fluid shapes to create a range of visual effects.
Acrylic Pour Canvas Painting
Students learned to create organic patterns through risk talking and experimentation. Exploring acrylic pouring techniques and colour mixing resulted in interesting fluid patterns.
