In addition to providing a varied art curriculum I have also developed a series of co-curricular art enrichment opportunities to enable students to continue to develop their learning beyond the classroom. Below are examples of recent co-curricular after school art clubs that I have established.
Art & design club
I collaborated with the design technology teacher to create and run a twice weekly after school art and design club with students aged 11 to 14. Students learned about traditional Japanese textile craft Shibori and developed their designs into a series of products. Students experimented with a range of Shibori techniques and learned through creative risk taking and problem solving.
'Extreme doodling' drawing club
This after school drawing club introduced students aged 9 to 11 to a range of problem solving and creative thinking challenges through a range of 'extreme doodling' techniques. Each week students had a different drawing challenge which focused on developing student's technical drawing skills alongside developing a strong sense of aesthetics and ability to generate new ideas.
Art club- digital art
Members of the year 6 (age 10-11) art club explored ideas related to characterisation, emotion and narrative using a digital art app created by artist Stefan Bucher. Students combined digital collage effects with hand drawn elements and photography to create witty and original character illustrations.

Members of the digital art club also enjoyed playing with techniques and ideas using layers and brushes in the digital illustration app Procreate.

Experimental art-science painting club
Members of the year 6 (age 10-11) weekly after school experimental painting club explored methods for creating their own painting pigments. Students learnt a range of canvas painting techniques, including impasto, embedding, embellishment and applying glazes. Learning through experimenting, problem solving and creative risk taking was a focus of this painting club.
The experimental canvas paintings created over the course of this club were inspired by student's exploration in their science lessons of cells and elements from the human body. Microscopic imagery of skin cells, blood cells, hair follicles and cancer cells were amongst the inspiration for the canvas paintings.

Deepavali art & music production club (flipped learning)
Year 6 students (age 10-11) took part in a weekly lunchtime art club to create artwork for the school Deepavali music production. Students learnt about the traditional Indian art of rangoli patterns, created to celebrate festivals.
Prior to each session students were provided with on-line tutorials and instructional videos to deepen understanding of the techniques practised during the club.
Each week during the club students experimented with new techniques to create rangoli designs including hand-made and digital techniques including spray paint, foam prints, collage and henna art. At the end of the club a selection of the designs created by students were edited into a film which formed the backdrop to the Deepavali music production the students were performing in.

Indian art club
Students from year 6 (age 10-11) took part in a series of lunchtime art workshops to create artwork to decorate the school in celebration of the Indian festival Diwali.
Working in collaboration, students explored colour mixing, painting and 3D paper construction techniques. Indian teaching assistants lent their expertise to advise students about Diwali traditions such a wearing saris, using diyas and creating marigold garlands.

Drawing club
Students from year 6 (age 10-11) took part in a weekly after school drawing club. Focusing on developing a range of personal drawing styles, students experimented with ink illustration techniques, refining their use of line, shape and texture. Students then experimented with using the laser cutter to raster their drawings onto canvas.
