In this unit of work students explored the aesthetics and symbolism used in Japanese art, craft and design.
Students researched the colour symbolism, codes and conventions used in traditional kimono design. Based on their research students created a meaningful and unique kimono design.
Linking to the design process in their design and technology lessons, students created their own design brief and developed a series of design ideas and kimono prototypes. Students drew inspiration from research into Japanese symbolism as well as first hand observational studies of natural forms.
