Art can provide students with authentic and meaningful ways to understand and respond to global issues by working with their peers in other countries. Below are examples of international art collaboration projects which I have led.
Art for peace in Ukraine #ArtForPeaceInUkraine
The global, student-driven art movement #ArtForPeaceInUkraine was initiated by Pechersk School International (IB World School based in Kyiv, Ukraine). The goal of the project was to spread a message for peace in the international school community in response to the war in Ukraine.
Students created artwork in 2D, 3D and digital forms in response the anti-war movement with the aim of promoting peace. Finished artworks were showcased via social media platforms and a global shared Padlet.

Global travelling art project
I worked with students from year 6 (age 10-11) on a collaborative art making project between international schools in Taiwan, South Africa, Singapore, the US and Thailand.
A group of students at an international school in Taiwan began the project by creating a collection of artwork inspired by personal interpretations on the theme of 'I AM HERE'. The artwork subsequently went on a journey to other international schools. Each time the artwork arrived at a new school it was altered, layered and changed by a group of new students in response to the work and ideas of the previous artist as well as personal interpretations of the theme 'I AM HERE'.
Students chose to explore issues as diverse as language, cultural identity, global warming, cyber bullying, global interconnectivity and personal interests.

International school art swap 'Creative Pen Pal Project' - Year 9 (age 13-14)
I facilitated an annual international school art swap between students in an international school in Japan and a French bilingual international school in the UK.
Students worked simultaneously on shared project themes based on each school's location and environment and developed a dialogue and inter-cultural communication through sharing and commenting on and responding to each other's work via Padlet and Google Slides.
